Now that things have calmed down a bit over there...this is what I have been told is official information:
At the end of last week the owners of USA International Raceway were unable to extend the situation that had allowed them to retain ownership and control of the facility. At that time the holders of the various loans/mortgages/notes took ownership and control. In doing so all the personnel previously involved with the operation of USAIR were replaced with a team brought in by the lawyers representing the new (temporary) owners.
I have been informed it is their intention to continue keeping the USAIR facility open, including the motocross track.
To that end they have retained one of the Kart racing officials to oversee the day to day running of the tracks. However because of all the changes and challenges this situation has created they will no longer be open 7 days a week.
Track schedule:
Thursday & Friday - 5pm to 9pm
Saturday & Sunday - 9am to 9pm
The big Kart track and the motocross track will be open these times. Until more people are hired the amusement park portion of the facility will not be open, look for that stuff to come on line a bit later in the season.
Marathon Off-Road has chosen to cancel the Hare Scrambles scheduled for July based on the complications this situation has presented. We have been working on a Fall MX mini-series to start after Labor Day, as well as preparations for the 2011 MX season. We plan on continuing our relationship with USAIR and are working with the new team going forward.
All the contact phone numbers for USAIR-MX have been changed, or in this case replaced - but they won't know what the new numbers are until later this week. Be advised all the published numbers "out there" right now will connect you with people who no longer have any control of the facility. The exception to that is the Marathon Off-Road Hotline number (mine), but right now this is about everything I know anyway. As soon as they get the new numbers from the phone company I will update this info.
I have advised them it is in their best interest to issue all of this information "officially" and I'm sure they will soon. I understand the local paper has been reporting on this and I'm sure there will be many "variations" of what happened this weekend - as well as what WILL happen this summer - floating around. The bottom line is the MX track is still open for practice, just reduced to Thursday thru Sunday, and the SIST people are no longer connected in any way to the facility.
