Shawano Updated - Sunday

Now that things have calmed down a bit over there...this is what I have been told is official information:

At the end of last week the owners of USA International Raceway were unable to extend the situation that had allowed them to retain ownership and control of the facility. At that time the holders of the various loans/mortgages/notes took ownership and control. In doing so all the personnel previously involved with the operation of USAIR were replaced with a team brought in by the lawyers representing the new (temporary) owners.

I have been informed it is their intention to continue keeping the USAIR facility open, including the motocross track.

To that end they have retained one of the Kart racing officials to oversee the day to day running of the tracks. However because of all the changes and challenges this situation has created they will no longer be open 7 days a week.

Track schedule:
Thursday & Friday - 5pm to 9pm
Saturday & Sunday - 9am to 9pm

The big Kart track and the motocross track will be open these times. Until more people are hired the amusement park portion of the facility will not be open, look for that stuff to come on line a bit later in the season.

Marathon Off-Road has chosen to cancel the Hare Scrambles scheduled for July based on the complications this situation has presented. We have been working on a Fall MX mini-series to start after Labor Day, as well as preparations for the 2011 MX season. We plan on continuing our relationship with USAIR and are working with the new team going forward.

All the contact phone numbers for USAIR-MX have been changed, or in this case replaced - but they won't know what the new numbers are until later this week. Be advised all the published numbers "out there" right now will connect you with people who no longer have any control of the facility. The exception to that is the Marathon Off-Road Hotline number (mine), but right now this is about everything I know anyway. As soon as they get the new numbers from the phone company I will update this info.

I have advised them it is in their best interest to issue all of this information "officially" and I'm sure they will soon. I understand the local paper has been reporting on this and I'm sure there will be many "variations" of what happened this weekend - as well as what WILL happen this summer - floating around. The bottom line is the MX track is still open for practice, just reduced to Thursday thru Sunday, and the SIST people are no longer connected in any way to the facility.

Shawano Closed

We have been informed that as of June 5, the complete facility at USA International Raceway in Shawano is closed. At this time we have no information as to when it may re-open. This closure affects all USAIR activities including Motocross, Karts and Supermoto. We will update the situation as more information becomes available.

Motocross Pits for May 8/9

Be advised we will be pitting EVERYONE in the MX pits at the South end of the facility. To get there, use the next driveway to the East of the main USAIR entrance, about 1/8 mile away. This is a dirt/grass area with 1000% better view/access to the MX track.

You can still park/pit/camp in the blacktop area if you choose. The blacktop area is closer to the showers and pool - but it is up to you.

Camping will be $10-$15 per night. You will be able to use the MX pits starting Friday.

Race Free May 8/9

Marathon Off-Road / AMA Sanctioned District 16 Motocross returns to USA International Raceway May 8&9 2010. And once again, you can race free, if you know the secret!

We always need track and sign-up workers, so you can get your race entry simply by helping us put on the race. Call Bill at 715-212-6340 for details!

New this year - 3rd class free! For 2010 if you race two "trophy" classes, your third (or fourth) class entry is free! No mater how many "trophy" classes you run you only have to pay for two. Sorry, this does not apply to the "cash payout" classes.

2010 USAIR D-16 MX

For 2010 there will be 2 AMA D-16 Points Motocross events at USA International Raceway. It will be a double weekend Saturday May 8 & Sunday May 9. Look for a whole new camping area (motorhomes on the GRASS!) and revised MX layout.

Also on the tentative side we have July 3 & 4 listed as tentative for a Hare Scrambles. Look for more details on those events later in the year.

AMA D-16 Motocross class changes for 2010: The +35-A class has been changed back to a +30-A. Also, the Supermini class is still optional for 2010, but was voted in as a full points class for 2011. We run ALL optional classes (like Supermin) at our MX races - so bring on!

Race For Free @ Shawano

Marathon Off-Road will again offer free race entry for track workers. And it doesn't have to be you doing the work! A good example are some of the "scoring moms" who got free race entry for their kids in past races.
We need some people for scoring and staging, and can always use a couple folks to run water out to the flaggers and give them relief if needed. Make arrangements by calling the race hotline at 715-212-6340. Thanks!

August 16 Race Update

For those of you who did not make it to the June race here's an update about the track at USAIR/Shawano. This past spring it was completely re-done by Schaefer Tracks. Shane and Marty did a complete change, moving about 80% (from North/South to East/West) and the remaing portion was reversed. The start is now wider with less of sharp bend (not the harsh 180 of last year) and in a slightly different location. The layout is longer now as a result with much better flow.

Just got word that Shane and Marty will be back the week before the August 16 (Sunday) D-16 points MX to fix things up for the event. The result will be a track prepped for racing by two of the best track builders in the country.

We will be running a similar Quad schedule to Wittenberg/Tigerton with all the Quad racing done at the end of the day. As a result Quad racers can sleep in - sign-up for Quads will be open until the afternoon. Riders meeting (for the bikes) at 8:30 followed by practice then racing. Local laws prevent us from having riders on the track before 9am.

As has been the case all summer, the MX track at USAIR will be open for practice 7-day a week. However the re-build schedule will close the track for a few days prior to the race. I don't know which days it will be closed yet because the weather will be playing a factor here. Also, we have not made a decision yet if the track will be open for practice on Saturday due to race prep. That's the plan, but it is not yet confirmed.

June 20/21 race day Info

AMA D-16 Points both Saturday and Sunday at USAIR MX Shawano. Race promoted by Marathon Off-Road.

Twitter "instant" updates via http://twitter.com/MotoBill. We expect good weather but this is Wisconsin and you never know! Race day info also available on the hotline: 715-212-6340. Last year several people thought we cancelled due to heavy rain.....that we never got......and missed the race. Call the hotline if you have any doubts.

On-site camping available, but that is run thru the USA International Raceway (NOT Marathon Off-Road). Call 414-234-8130 for details and information on the limited number of available electric hook-ups. Due to the requirements of this facility camping is only sold in 3-day blocks for $40 (for all three days). Be advised pits & camping will be on blacktop - so no "campfires".‎

Gate is $10 per person for the whole weekend.

Entry Fees: Trophy classes $20, Payback classes $25. We payout 101% minimum.

Gates open 6am. Race entry 6am to 8:30am at the main gate. We will take race entry all day Friday and Saturday in the staging area but only as time permits. Race weekend gate and camping opens Friday morning.

Schedule for both days:
Local laws require us to not run the track until after 9am so we will be holding the Riders Meeting at 8:30am. Practice will follow at 9am. Fast Big Bikes, Slow Big Bikes, Minis, PeeWees then Quads in that order. The Quads will practice in their staging order and will stay "on track" as the first classes of the day, followed by the bike classes. We run "clean" bikes then allow "dirty" bikes if time permits. If you are sharing a bike between different riders just let us know and we will take care of you.

Entry refunds will be give untill the first green flag of the day as will be explained at the riders meeting.

Pit bikes/vehicles allowed only when used responsibly. Screw up and your out the gate. End of story.

USAIR is a full amusment park with mini golf, several go-cart tracks, bumper boats, food stands (Dave Arva loves the elephant ears) and yes, a swimming pool. Showers on site too. If that's not your cup of tea I can make it to KFC (first stop light to the West of the track) in about 6 min flat from the main gate. McDonalds/Taco Bell/Wal-Mart in 15. R&S Motorsports (on the way to KFC) will be open Friday until 6, Saturday until 2 - 715-524-6287. The best Pizza I've ever had in my life is at Luigi's Pasta & Pizza 715-524-4791.
